Agri-food research and development: new FVG funding call launched

The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has published a new public call aimed at supporting the development of technological solutions in key sectors of innovation and sustainable transition. Among these is the agri-food sector, part of the strategic area “Health, Quality of Life, Agri-food, and Bioeconomy.”

The call provides funding for research and development in the agri-food sector and other key areas, with the goal of bringing innovative products and services closer to the market. It supports projects aimed at raising the Technology Readiness Level (TRL), starting from a minimum level of 4 up to TRL 6, 7, or 8.

The total budget amounts to 3 million euros, with non-repayable grants allocated to initiatives capable of generating tangible value for the region.

Who can apply?

The call is open to entities aiming to carry out innovative projects, including those focused on agri-food research contributions. Specifically, it targets:

  • Companies of any size, including innovative start-ups and spin-offs
  • Universities
  • Research organizations, public or private

All entities with a registered office or operational unit in Friuli Venezia Giulia are eligible to apply. Organizations with their legal or operational headquarters outside the region are also admitted, provided they commit to establishing an operational unit in FVG before the project begins.

Each applicant may submit only one application per window. If the proposal is not admitted, it cannot be resubmitted during the same opening period.

Which projects are eligible?

The FVG call is intended for projects aimed at validating innovative ideas and technologies by increasing their Technology Readiness Level (TRL).

To be eligible, projects must start from a minimum TRL of 4 and reach TRL 6, 7, or 8.

Depending on the target TRL to be reached, the nature of the project activity also varies:

  • For reaching TRL 6 → the project activity must consist of industrial research (validation in a relevant environment).
  • For reaching TRL 7 and 8 → the project activity must consist of experimental development (demonstration in an operational environment and complete system).

The maximum duration ranges from 6 to 24 months, depending on the target TRL. Projects must align with one of the trajectories of the “Health, Quality of Life, Agri-food, and Bioeconomy” area, including:

  • Nutraceuticals and functional foods
  • Solutions for sustainable agriculture
  • Innovation in agri-food processes and products

Contribution intensity: differences between applicants

The maximum grant amount varies depending on the target TRL (up to €500,000). The aid intensity is determined based on type of applicant, TRL Level, company size.

From idea to value: the Quin Group’s contribution to agri-food innovation

Funding for agri-food research represents a concrete opportunity to accelerate the development of innovative solutions in the agri-food sector. At the same time, however, turning an idea into a solid project requires expertise, vision, and reliable partners.

It is in this context that the Quin Group can make a difference.

We support agri-food companies across the entire value chain, integrating advanced digital solutions to enhance efficiency, traceability, and sustainability. In addition to ERP, CRM, IoT, AI, and Business Intelligence, we work on MES and WMS systems, demand forecasting solutions, production planning and scheduling, data analysis, and machine learning. We monitor processes and quality in real time, automate intervention alerts, and collect strategic data to support governance.

System integration enables a unified view and precise control of processes, from operational management to strategic decision-making. We leverage Microsoft technologies—Dynamics 365, Azure, Power BI—as well as other platforms selected according to the goals and specific needs of each production environment. Our approach combines strategic consulting, process expertise, and tailored technological solutions to guide agri-food companies through a concrete and scalable digital transformation journey.
